The Kilolita — formal definition

A Kilolita is the real-world kilometres a vehicle travels per litre of fuel on Kenyan roads, calculated from verified driver submissions.

• The headline figure is the median of accepted submissions — medians resist outliers.
• The interquartile range (p25–p75) is always displayed alongside the median.
• The sample size n is shown next to every Kilolita figure, without exception.
• Below n = 5 the figure is labelled Provisional.
• At n = 0 the page shows the official rating plus a clearly-labelled Kilolita Estimate: official cycle rating × a cycle-specific correction factor (JC08 × 0.72, WLTC × 0.85, NEDC × 0.78), adjusted by age band.
• Figures are stored to three decimals, displayed to one.

How costs are computed

Every cost figure derives from the single active EPRA price cycle: cost/km = pump price ÷ Kilolita; monthly = cost/km × 1,000 km. Prices vary by town — pick yours with the town selector; it is remembered.

How data is collected

Anonymous tank-to-tank, trip-computer and estimate readings are submitted publicly, validated server-side (km/L = distance ÷ litres — never a claimed ratio), and moderated before touching any median. Estimates are labelled and weighted. Outliers are flagged, not silently dropped.
